IPv6 Attributes
- 128 Bit address space provides about 1500 IP addresses per square foot on earth (even with the most pessimistic efficiency usage)
- Minimum Header is only twice as long as IPv4 - 40 bytes compared to 20 bytes.
- Options are chained in the nextheader field with the value being the Transport protocol being used if nothing else. If there is something else the last nextheader field with be the uplevel transport protocol number.
- Provides Stateless Autoconfiguration (prefix + Ethernet Address)
- Essentially implements CIDR and subnetting.
